BRIDGEPORT — New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr. caused a stir last week when he said he would like to extend the right to vote to every New Haven resident — including undocumented immigrants.

In state legislatures around the country a systematic campaign to strip millions of Americans of their right to vote is unfolding. The Brennan Center for Justice has recently issued a thorough report on how this attack on one of our most basic civil and human rights is playing out state by state. This is a serious threat, one we must take action to reverse.

On Saturday, December 10th a major mobilization initiated by the NAACP and 1199 SEIU will focus the public’s attention on this urgent issue.Called STAND FOR FREEDOM, we will gather at the NYC offices of the Koch brothers and march to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza across from the United Nations for a rally. The Koch brothers are key funders of the assault on voting rights, and Dec. 10th is UN Human Rights day.
